Greetings ~

Wanting badly to become a movie actress, struggling to get there, then having her hopes dashed and deciding to kill herself. This is the story of Peg Entwhistle. Another 24-year old woman that just simply couldn't handle the rejection of Hollywood. After a fairly successful stint on Broadway, Peg moved on to Hollywood to try her hand at the film industry. She managed to get a part in a motion picture, but when the film's release was held up, she thought, for whatever reason, that her acting days were over. She decided to climb to the top of the "H" on the hillside Hollywood sign and jump off, which is just what she did.

Suicide is never a good idea as, no doubt, had Peg Entwhistle have lived, she just may have become the big star that she had hoped. The film was finally released to theaters a few months after her death and critics seemed to like her acting. In her days on the Broadway stage, she always had good reviews. She acted with the likes of Humphrey Bogart and actually helped, unknowingly, to start Bette Davis on the road to films.
Other than possibly a very painful fatal illness, suicide is never an answer to anyone's problems. Peg Entwhistle is the perfect example. She died at 24-years old and actually had a very promising film career ahead of her...if only she had known it.
